“It feels good. It feels amazing,” Alex beams, reflecting on his career. “20 years in broadcasting is no small feat. It’s a dream come true, and to be surrounded by my people on this special day feels even more incredible.”

Today, Alex is the heart and soul of the morning show at Radio 47, where he teams up with his co-host Emmanuel Mwashumbe. But his journey didn’t start with the spotlight. In fact, it began with a love for performance that started when he was just a boy where he was active in drama and acrobatics.

“I was always the energetic kid,” he recalls, “and after a performance on KBC as an acrobat, I realized people enjoyed what I was doing.

Consequently, That motivated me to join the Angaza Drama Club and perform for influential audiences.”

HOW DID ALEX MWAKIDEU FIND HIS VOICE FOR RADIO?

It all started when Baraka FM was looking for a commercial scriptwriter. Alex and his team wrote a script, and the client was so impressed that they began receiving regular calls for more work.

“It was a small start,” he says, “but soon, Baraka FM offered me a salary of Ksh. 5,000 a month, and I knew this was just the beginning.”

Still unsure of his calling, Alex was encouraged by Peter Musembi, the news editor at Baraka FM, who heard something special in his voice. “Peter told me I had a voice for news,” Alex smiles.

“He asked me to practice, and even though I wasn’t trained as a journalist, I took his advice seriously. I practiced every day—reading the Taifa Leo newspaper and listening to Swahili radio reporters.”

Then came his big break—a moment of destiny. A news anchor was stuck in traffic just before a live broadcast, and Alex was handed the 1 p.m. news bulletin.

“I panicked at first. But I said a prayer, and when the time came, I read the news live on air. When I finished, the entire station applauded. That was my moment. That’s how I became a news anchor at Baraka FM.”

From there, Alex’s journey only grew stronger. He hosted The Drive Show and Zama Nami Weekend Show, alongside some of the biggest names in radio.

His potential was clear, and soon, he was given the opportunity to train in Germany. But despite his rising success, Alex remained grounded, always pushing to grow and improve.

He moved on to Radio Maisha, where he and his team did something remarkable—bringing the station to the number one spot.

But, as he reflects, success doesn’t mean resting on your laurels. “After eight years, I knew it was time to move on. I wanted new challenges and experiences.”

The next chapter led him to Milele FM, where he spent five years. But it wasn’t long before he was presented with an unexpected phone call—this time from Radio 47.

“I decided to take a break and focus on other things, but within two weeks, Radio 47 reached out to me. It felt like the right place to be,” Alex shares.

Adding, “I’ve known the team here for years. We’ve worked together before, and it feels like home.”

For Alex, Radio 47 is where he will stay. “This is my final destination,” he affirms with confidence. “I’m comfortable here. If ever Radio 47 says, ‘It’s enough,’ or if I feel it’s time, then that will be it. But for now, I’m where I’m meant to be.”

With a career filled with passion, dedication, and a love for his craft, Alex Mwakideu is a true testament to the power of perseverance.

He’s not just a voice on air—he is a symbol of how far passion can take you. And as he reflects on his journey, he knows one thing for sure: he wants to retire on top, still doing what he loves.

“I want to retire when I’m doing well,” Alex says, his voice filled with conviction. “Radio 47 is where I’ll end strong—with my game still at its peak.”
