Who is Bensoul?

Born and raised in the heart of Dallas slums in Embu, Benson Mutua Muia—better known as Bensoul or Papa Soul—has defied the odds to become one of Kenya’s most celebrated artists.

Raised by a resilient single mother after his father abandoned them for refusing to convert to Islam, Bensoul considers his mother his hero and biggest supporter. Unfortunately, she passed on in November, 2023.

Despite spending three years studying Civil Engineering at the Technical University of Kenya, his heart belonged to music. He took a bold leap, dropped out, and pursued his passion full-time.

In 2019, he joined Sol Generation, the powerhouse label founded by Sauti Sol, where he released chart-topping hits like Favorite Song, Niombee, Nairobi, Forget You, and Lucy, cementing his place in the industry.

Furthermore, as a fearless advocate for the legalization of weed, he made waves with his album Lion of Sudah and eventually transformed it into his own brand and empire after parting ways with Sol Generation in 2023.

As a result of his exceptional talent, he gained global recognition in 2021 when he received a Grammy certificate for his contributions to Burna Boy’s award-winning album Twice as Tall.

Beyond the music, Bensoul is a proud father to a baby girl, whom he co-parents with Tiffany Muikamba. Moreover, his love life has also made headlines, particularly his past long-term relationship with Noni Gathoni, with whom he still maintains a friendship.

From the slums to the Grammys, from heartbreak to fatherhood, Bensoul’s journey is a testament to resilience, passion, and the power of music.
