Professor Hamo’s journey from scandal to redemption: Faith, family, and a second chance

Former Churchill Show comedian, Professor Hamo, is opening up about the devastating toll his affair with co-worker Jemutai took on him and his family.

In a candid conversation on the Mic Cheque Podcast, the 44-year-old father of five revealed how the public scandal left him financially and emotionally shattered, forcing him to rebuild his life from the ground up.

When news of his affair broke, the backlash was swift and unforgiving. Hamo, already a married father of three, became a social pariah almost overnight.

The scandal cost him approximately Sh 14 million in brand partnerships, with agencies and companies severing ties.

“I lost money that I was looking forward to receiving. But more importantly, I lost my brand, which was everything,” he recalled, his voice heavy with emotion.

Hamo admitted that his downfall wasn’t solely due to the scandal, but also a result of reckless financial decisions made during his younger years.

“I was in my 30s, money was coming in, but I was making terrible decisions,” he confessed. However, the public fallout from the affair accelerated his downward spiral.

“After the scandal, nobody cared whether it was true or false. Everything collapsed. I lost about KSh 14 million,” Hamo said.

Beyond the financial devastation, the greatest pain for Hamo was the hurt and embarrassment he caused his wife, Zipporah.

“What hurt me the most was that I hurt my wife, and she had never wronged me,” he admitted. Despite this, Hamo credits his wife for being his rock during the darkest days of his life.

“She told me she wasn’t going to fight this war on social media. She asked me what we would be fighting for online. She urged me to return to God, and I did.”

Zipporah’s unwavering support and wisdom gave Hamo the strength to face his struggles head-on. “She had already noticed I was spiraling and stood by me when I opened up about my struggles,”

Hamo shared. “I can’t imagine my life without her. There were times I didn’t know what to do, but she would tell me to relax, and then I would wake up with an epiphany.”

Through his wife’s encouragement and his faith, Hamo began to rebuild. He saw his fall from grace not as a final blow but as an opportunity—a “gift from God” to start over and become a better version of himself.

“When my reputation was in shambles, I knew God had given me a chance to start over,” he reflected.

While the affair played a significant role in his downfall, Hamo also used the experience to confront personal demons, including his struggles with substance abuse.

He believes that the painful lessons from his past have made him a better father and a stronger man. “The experience made me a better father and helped me heal from issues I had been struggling with,” he said.

Looking back, Hamo sees his mistakes as necessary stepping stones that ultimately led to his redemption. Though the road to recovery has been long and full of challenges, Hamo’s story is a powerful testament to the strength of faith, family, and the courage to rebuild even after hitting rock bottom.

His message is clear: no matter how far you fall, there’s always a chance for redemption and a second chance at life.
