Juja MP George Koimburi stage-managed his abduction says Police

DCI boss Amin Mohamed and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja announced that the MP George Koimburi worked with his assistant and other proxies to stage his capture, including staying at a hotel during his alleged abduction for political mileage.

The National Police Service (NPS) has confirmed the arrest of three individuals in connection with the alleged abduction of Juja Member of Parliament, George Koimburi, a case that has shocked the nation and stirred deep concerns about political safety and integrity in Kenya.

In a statement released on Wednesday, May 28, the NPS named the three as Peter Kiratu, Chairperson of the Juja Constituency Development Fund (CDF); Cyrus Kieru Muhia, a close ally of the MP; and Karanja Gatana. All three have recorded statements that investigators say are shedding light on the suspicious and troubling events of Sunday, May 25.

According to Kiratu, who was with the MP during a church service at Full Gospel Church in Mugutha, the two were leaving the premises when a silver Subaru Forester (Reg. No. KBP 096W) abruptly pulled up.

Two heavily built men jumped out and forcefully bundled the MP into the vehicle in broad daylight—a scene that left onlookers in disbelief. Kiratu immediately reported the incident at Mugutha Police Station.

The following day, on May 26, Kiratu received a desperate call from Koimburi’s daughter, Wanjiru, informing him that her father had been found in a coffee plantation in Juja. He was rushed to Plainsview Hospital in Ruiru for first aid and later transferred to Karen Hospital for further treatment.

As details unfold, a disturbing narrative has begun to emerge, one that points not just to a criminal act, but possibly a carefully staged political spectacle.

Cyrus Kieru Muhia, who owns a supermarket in Kahawa West, told detectives he was asked by Kiratu to lend his Subaru Forester (Reg. No. KDG 803B) to transport additional security for the MP. But what followed was anything but standard security protocol.

Muhia stated that on May 25, he met with Gatana who was driving Kiratu’s Honda CRV and three unknown men.

Later, he was instructed to drive the Subaru to the church. Once there, two of the men jumped out, and soon after, he heard screaming. Koimburi was allegedly forced into the vehicle.

They drove towards Jacaranda Coffee Research Station. There, the MP directed them to stop near another vehicle the Honda CRV driven by Gatana. Muhia claims he was then left behind with the strangers, who threatened him to stay silent.

But perhaps most alarming is what Gatana himself confessed after being arrested: he admitted that the abduction was staged. According to police, Gatana revealed he dropped MP Koimburi at a hotel where he spent the night with his “abductors.”

The following day, he picked him up and drove him to the spot where they planned to claim he had been “dumped.” In a chilling detail, Gatana said he even helped Koimburi tear his clothes to simulate signs of torture.

The police have since recovered both the Subaru and the Honda CRV believed to be used in the staged incident.

This case raises urgent questions: Was this a cry for attention, a political diversion, or something more sinister? Why would leaders entrusted with public confidence orchestrate such a deceptive and dangerous act?

The NPS has vowed to pursue the truth and bring everyone involved to justice. They are urging the public to come forward with any additional information by visiting the nearest police station or calling toll-free: 999, 911, 112, or #FichuakwaDCI at 0800 722 203.

As the investigation deepens, the nation watches closely not just to see justice served, but to reclaim the truth in a time when it appears more fragile than ever.

MPs Slam MP George Koimburi Over Fake Abduction Scandal

Parliament erupted on Wednesday 28th May, 2025 as MPs condemned Juja MP George Koimburi, following revelations by the DCI that he allegedly stage-managed his own abduction for political gain.

“To my shock, the report tabled in Parliament is what I can term as the biggest political scandal in our country,” said National Assembly’s Junet Mohamed. “When I saw the first photo, from the way he was sleeping… the shirt, the stomach looking up, I knew it was fake.”

Junet linked the drama to previous political theatrics, referencing former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s sudden illness during Senate cross-examination:
“This is the same script. The director of this drama is none other than Mr. Wamunyoro. This country is full of drama.”

He thanked the police for swift investigations, warning that without action, “self-abductions would have gone up.”

Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah echoed the outrage, calling on the DPP, EACC, and Parliament’s own committees to act:
“The people of Juja must know—you can recall an MP who isn’t working for you and is only singing praises to another man.”

He urged Parliament to make an example of Koimburi: “Let this be a lesson to all leaders chasing clout through deception.
