‘It won’t bring him back, but I received It’- Albert Ojwang’s father confirms Ksh2M from Ruto

Amid swirling rumors, grief, and a grieving nation demanding accountability, Mzee Meshack Opiyo Ojwang, father of slain blogger Albert Ojwang, has come forward to put the record straight: the KSh 2 million donation pledged by President William Ruto was not only received it was deposited directly into his grandson’s account.

“It’s true that money went to my grandson’s account directly. I sent it to his account the same day it was given to me,” Mzee Ojwang said in a phone interview with Radio 47, adding that Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and an Equity Bank manager were present when the money was handed over.

His public confirmation comes after a wave of misinformation and public concern, as Kenyans questioned whether President Ruto had honored his promise to support Ojwang’s grieving family following the young man’s tragic death during the Gen Z protests.

Earlier, false claims circulated suggesting the family had not received a cent, with some alleging that Mzee Opiyo had been forced to remind the president of his pledge. Ojwang’s uncle, Kenneth Ouma, had already dismissed those rumors and now, Mzee Opiyo’s account cements the truth.

But this was more than a financial transaction it was a moment of legacy. Mzee Opiyo made it clear he was safeguarding his grandson’s future amid the sorrow:

“Governor Gladys Wanga brought the money, and the Equity Bank manager was present. He received the money and placed it into my grandson’s account.”

Kenyans across the country had been wondering, would the widow and young son of the fallen blogger benefit from the flood of pledges made by politicians? Mzee Opiyo’s response, dignified and deliberate, proves he has his family’s long-term well-being at heart.

He also confirmed that Albert Ojwang’s body will arrive home on July 3, with the burial set for July 4 — dismissing claims that he would delay the burial until justice was served.

“His burial is on June 4 and his body will arrive on June 3,” he said, correcting the record and urging the public to separate grief from propaganda.

The family has estimated the total burial cost at KSh 4.5 million, a stark reminder of the painful price being paid, both emotionally and materially, by the families of those lost in Kenya’s current wave of unrest.
