A mother’s unimaginable struggle for life: Kezia Nyambura Macharia battles with a life-threatening tumor

When Kezia Nyambura Macharia, a 41-year-old mother of three from Kipipiri, Nyandarua County, was seen walking around her neighborhood with a swollen belly, many assumed she was simply pregnant.

But the truth was far more heartbreaking. What appeared to be a pregnancy was actually a massive tumor weighing heavily on her body.

For over five years, Kezia Nyambura has been battling a mysterious and painful abdominal swelling that began as a small bulge in 2020. What she once thought was pregnancy has turned into an overwhelming and life-altering condition.

For years, this tumor grew inside her, causing unbearable pain and making even the simplest tasks—like walking, sleeping, and caring for her three children—impossible.

This condition has not only stolen her peace but also left her unable to provide for her children—two in school, one in Grade 2 and the others in Grade 6 and 8. They have been forced to stay with their grandmother as their mother fights this battle.

Kezia’s condition, which began over four years ago, left her feeling hopeless as she struggled to find treatment.

Local hospitals couldn’t help, and without the funds to seek the necessary medical care, she faced a life-threatening battle.

In a tearful video, she shared her painful reality, and the hearts of many Kenyans were moved.

Her story quickly gained attention, and the power of community support kicked in. With the help of generous well-wishers, Kezia was able to get the treatment she so desperately needed at Kenyatta National Hospital. For the first time in years, she could breathe a sigh of relief.

Kenyans from all walks of life, including philanthropist Karangu Muraya and comedian Eric Omondi, rallied behind Kezia.

They made sure she received the care she needed, and now, after a long and painful journey, Keziah is on the path to recovery.

Her heartfelt thanks go out to every person who helped her along the way. Together, we showed her that she’s not alone.
