President William Ruto termed Tuesday, May 20, 2025 one of the most special days in his political career when handing over new homes in the Mukuru Affordable Housing.
This specific day saw President Ruto officially hand over 1,080 housing units to Mukuru Affordable Housing beneficiaries in Embakasi South, Nairobi.
According to the first in command, the project that sits on a 56-acre land, and touted Kenya’s largest affordable housing project to date, does not only stand as a successful project of the Kenya Kwanza Government.
The project, an emotional President Ruto said, stands as a symbol that his dream of uplifting the poor in the society is finally coming to fruition.
And as he handed keys to the 1,080 families of Mukuru slums, Ruto who led the 1,080 families in songs said it was not just keys to open doors or houses, but keys to welcome the families to a life of dignity.
“Today, we are giving 1,080 families keys, not just to open a door, not just to open a house, but to open a home.
Adding, “The key is to welcome these families into a life of dignity- the commitment I made to Kenyans when I was campaigning for elections,” President Ruto posed, amid loud cheers and screams from the families benefitting from the project.
President Ruto remained upbeat that the project, which will feature 13,248 residential units upon completion, is not the first, neither will it be the last of his administration.
“We are building 150,000 houses like [the new Mukuru Housing Estate] across the country. No Kenyan should live in the slums because that is indignity.”
For the doubting Thomases, the head of state had a word for them. “When I started the Housing Project, many did not believe. They told me I’m a liar. But today, I am here in Mukuru to handover housing units to 1,080 families.”
The handover marked a major milestone in Kenya Kwanza Government’s Affordable Housing Programme, a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which seeks to provide decent and affordable housing to millions of Kenyans.
The project is located in Mukuru Met Site in South B, just off Enterprise Road. Priority, the government said, shall be given to residents of Mukuru informal settlements during allocation.

The atmosphere at the Mukuru Affordable Housing event was nothing short of electric—a fusion of joy, faith, and renewed hope.
As President Ruto delivered on his promise to 1,080 families, the air was thick with emotion. Residents, many of whom had known only hardship and neglect, danced, wept, and embraced, overwhelmed by the weight of the moment.
The day wasn’t just about brick and mortar—it was a celebration of rebirth. Gospel sensation Mercy Masika lifted spirits to the heavens with songs of praise that turned the handover into a spiritual awakening.
The energy soared higher when Wadagliz, Wadagliz’s energetic and electrifying performances continue to captivate audiences. blending rhythm with reality in a way that spoke directly to the people’s pain, pride, and perseverance.
