Lang’ata MP Phelix Odiwuor, alias Jalang’o, has thrown his political weight behind Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, declaring that the outspoken legislator will clinch the Nairobi gubernatorial seat come 2027 — ODM ticket or not.
According to Jalang’o, Babu’s development track record and connection with the people give him an unshakable edge, saying he has what it takes to transform the capital for all Nairobians.
“Babu Owino akipewa hiyo ticket ya ODM…nakuambia leo hii, Babu atakuwa Governor. Na ata asipopewa, anaenda kusumbua sana…”

He added passionately: “Mimi nakutayarisha katika uongozi wa His Excellency Babu Owino, Governor Nairobi.”
But Jalang’o didn’t stop there — revealing his own political roadmap, he made it clear he’s not just a cheerleader.

“Na unajua anapiga one term ananiwachia kama amepanda juu nimeshikilia Nairobi. Akipanda juu sasa ni rais, kwa sababu 2032 inaenda kupata kiwanja sasa iko free.”
In a political landscape where ambition meets allegiance, Jalang’o is already plotting the next decade — a Nairobi led by Babu, and then by Jalang’o himself.
Jalang’o Predicts Babu Owino Will Be Nairobi Governor
At the same time, Jalang’o warned that division among candidates from the same regions could cost them the seat, potentially paving the way for a Mount Kenya candidate to clinch the Nairobi governorship for the first time.
“Politics is tribal. There are times when tribes can unite and defeat a candidate. Or they can all compete for the same thing and mess everything up. Today, if Babu Owino runs, Sakaja runs, and Tim Wanyonyi runs—they all have the backing of ODM, of Baba (Raila Odinga), and of Azimio. They will split the vote. And if there’s a candidate from Murima (Mount Kenya), for the first time, they will become governor,” Jalang’o stated.

“They must agree among themselves. Decide who will run. They should go forward united, having reached an agreement, because there will be a candidate from the DCP side,” he added.
As of now, six individuals have declared their intention to vie for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, including Babu Owino.
Declared Candidates for Nairobi Governorship (2027)
Incumbent governor Johnson Sakaja has affirmed his intention to seek re-election in 2027, though he has not yet disclosed the party he will represent.
His frequent appearances alongside Raila Odinga have fueled speculation that he may align himself with ODM—a move that has stirred unease within the party. Tensions escalated after Embakasi East MP Babu Owino publicly asserted that he has been more loyal to Raila than Sakaja.
Agnes Kagure, a businesswoman and advocate for empowerment who ran in 2022, has officially declared her bid for the 2027 Nairobi governorship race.
