Hearts are heavy as news breaks that celebrated Kenyan singer Mary Wanjiru a.k.a Marya is currently hospitalized after suffering a stroke that has tragically left one side of her body paralyzed.
The devastating update was shared by Marya’s close friend and fellow singer, Avril, who revealed the details with Marya’s full permission, an act of courage and vulnerability that speaks volumes about the gravity of her situation.
Marya, the Chokoza singer who has brought joy to so many through her music, now finds herself in a fight for her health. She is expected to be discharged from the hospital soon, but the road ahead is steep and uncertain.

She will need intensive home care and dedicated physiotherapy, along with essential medical equipment such as a hospital bed, a wheelchair, a ripple mattress, and bed liners, items critical for her healing and daily living.
In an emotional appeal, Avril shared:
“Hey fam. @officialkendikenya and I went to lift Marya’s @official_maryakenya spirits while she’s in the hospital. With her permission, we took this photo and we are allowed to share.
She’s been in the hospital for a little while after suffering a stroke and will hopefully be discharged soon. But she will unfortunately require a lot of home care as she regains all her motor skills as she is paralyzed on one side of her entire body. She needs our help to set up a care space at her home; hospital bed, wheelchair, ripple mattress, bed liners and much more.

I’m humbly requesting for your prayers and a contribution to the phone number 0723207376 (Lilian Miring’u) to help towards her home care and physiotherapy. Whatever you can share will go a long way. Much love thank you.”
The music community, fans, and well-wishers are rallying behind Marya during this unimaginably difficult time. Any support, prayers, messages of love, or financial assistance is not only welcome but deeply needed.
Those willing and able to support Marya’s journey to recovery are encouraged to contribute via MPESA: 0723 207376 (Name: Lilian Miring’u).
Let’s stand with Marya just as her music once stood with us.
