Women leaders allied to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have erupted in outrage, calling for the immediate arrest of Kikuyu MP and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah over what they term as sexist, demeaning, and politically motivated attacks on Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
In a fiery press conference held Tuesday, July 22, DCP (Democratic Coalition Party) women leaders condemned Ichung’wah’s recent remarks about Pastor Dorcas—remarks they say crossed every line of decency, respect, and leadership.
The controversy stems from a viral video in which Ichung’wah ridicules Gachagua’s “Wantam” slogan, dismissing it as a meaningless household phrase.
More incendiary, however, was his accusation that Gachagua had neglected his marriage and Pastor Dorcas in favor of constant politicking—an allegation that has triggered nationwide backlash and a storm of condemnation online.

“We know what this is—it’s a coordinated smear campaign against strong women in leadership,” said DCP representative Moraa John. “If the DCI can hound our women leaders, it must also act on Ichung’wah. This is not politics—this is character assassination.”
Another DCP leader, Njeri Kahiga, described Ichung’wah’s comments as “reckless and dishonourable,” calling Pastor Dorcas a pillar of compassion and integrity known for her work in mental health, widows’ welfare, and advocacy for the boychild.
“To belittle a woman of such impact—just to score cheap political points—is not only shameful, it’s dangerous,” Kahiga said. “Real leadership demands restraint, maturity, and above all, respect.”
The women leaders have demanded three things:
- Immediate arrest of Ichung’wah by the DCI,
- A full public apology, and
- A formal retraction of the remarks made against Pastor Dorcas.

This uproar comes amid simmering tensions between Ichung’wah and Gachagua—tensions that exploded after Gachagua’s impeachment in October 2024.
Ichung’wah, seen as a key architect of the motion, has since accused Gachagua of plotting harm against his elderly parents and attempting to burn down their home.
Now, with personal insults and political vendettas spiraling out of control, questions are mounting: How far will this power struggle go—and who will protect the dignity of women caught in its crossfire?
