Gachagua claims Ruto’s desperation for Raila’s support in 2027: “You are going home”

In a bold statement that has sent shockwaves through Kenya’s political landscape, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of seeking Raila Odinga’s support to salvage his re-election bid for 2027.

Gachagua didn’t hold back, declaring that unless Raila steps in, Ruto is heading for a humiliating defeat in the upcoming elections.

In a fiery interview with KTN News on Monday, February 24, Gachagua lashed out at Ruto, claiming that the president’s alleged scheme to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome would alienate him further from the Mt. Kenya region, especially Meru, worsening his political standing.

“Mr. President, you have hatched a scheme with your deputy to remove Koome as Chief Justice. If you succeed, and you can succeed because you removed a deputy president elected by 7.2 million Kenyans, the one for the Chief Justice will be much easier.

Adding, Once you do that, your relationship with the people of Meru is irreparably damaged. There is no need for you even to come to Meru—you will face a very hostile reception,” Gachagua warned.

He painted a grim picture of Ruto’s situation in the Mt. Kenya region, revealing that even a recent condolence message from Ruto was rejected at a funeral in Embu, with hostility growing in Meru.

Gachagua predicted that the alleged move to remove Koome would only fuel further resentment, making Ruto’s position in Meru even worse.

Gachagua then hit hard, questioning Ruto’s political survival. “I tried to advise you, but you did not listen. Now you are struggling. You are begging Raila Odinga to save you and hold your government together.

Consequently, You are going home unless Raila holds your hand. And even if he does, I don’t think he’ll help you,” he declared, raising doubts about Raila’s ability to rescue Ruto’s faltering presidency.

In his statement, Gachagua stressed the importance of respecting the dignity of the presidency, warning that Ruto’s actions were damaging the institution itself.

He expressed his own aspirations for the presidency, vowing to uphold the office’s dignity and ensure it remains a symbol of national unity.

“The presidency is very important for this country. It is a symbol of national unity. The president should be able to go everywhere in the country and receive a good reception,” he said, hinting that if given the opportunity, he would ensure the institution is respected once again.

As Kenya’s political scene heats up ahead of 2027, it remains to be seen whether Raila’s support could truly be a lifeline for Ruto—or if Gachagua’s dire predictions come true.
