Esma Platnumz, the elder sister of Tanzanian music star Diamond Platnumz, has courageously laid bare the depths of her soul, sharing the heartbreaking story of losing her firstborn child, Osman. At just seven years old, his life was cruelly stolen, leaving a wound so deep that time has never truly been able to mend it.
During an emotional Instagram Live session, Esma pulled back the veil on years of silent agony. With a voice quivering under the weight of grief and eyes glistening with unshed tears, she relived the excruciating moment she watched her beloved son take his final breath in a cold, sterile hospital bed—a sight no mother should ever have to endure.

Esma Platnumz Remembers Her Son
Esma painted a portrait of Osman—a beautiful, kind-hearted soul who mirrored her in so many ways.
“Ningekuwa na mtoto wa kiume mkubwa sana.. Sasa hivi angekuwa na miaka 23. Nilimpenda, lakini Mungu alimpenda zaidi. Alikuwa mtoto wangu wa kwanza kabisa.

Adding, “Alikuwa anaitwa Osman. Alikuwa ni mtoto mzuri sana. Alinifuatwa mimi kila kitu. Alikuwa mweupe sana. Na sasa hivi ningekuwa nasuluhisha ugomvi wa wakwe zangu lakini kwa bahati mbaya..”
Osman was diagnosed with sickle cell disease, a relentless illness that demanded constant care. Esma fought tirelessly—endless clinic visits, daily medications, sleepless nights spent pleading with God to spare her son.
But fate had already written a different ending. His condition deteriorated when his lungs began to fail, and despite every desperate effort, she was forced to endure a mother’s worst nightmare.
“Alipata ugonjwa wa sickle cell. Nilikuwa naenda clinic mara nyingi sana. Alikuwa anatumia dose ya kila siku. Basi alifariki Kairuki. Kuna siku aliumwa, tukaenda hospitali, tukalazwa wiki.

Tukaambiwa ukinywa dawa, maini yako yanaharibika. Kwa hivyo maini yake yaliharibika, figo, na akafariki. Alifariki namuona. Nakumbuka sauti yake, alikuwa analalamika, ‘Kuna watu wananifuata, wanakuja…'”
As her voice cracked with sorrow, Esma recounted the most haunting moment of all—her son’s final words before slipping away forever: “Tumeshafeli” (We have failed).

That phrase, a devastating echo of loss, still torments her. In the moment, she couldn’t fully grasp the weight of those words, but now, with years of heartache behind her, they have become an unbearable burden, an unanswerable question that lingers in the depths of her soul.
“It was so painful. I don’t like talking about it because it still hurts. He was my firstborn, and he passed away when he was only seven years old,” Esma confessed, her voice trembling, her heart breaking all over again.

Esma’s Painful Decision to Terminate a Pregnancy
In 2021, after her brief three-month marriage with Maulid crumbled, Esma revealed another deeply painful truth—she had made the agonizing decision to terminate a three-month pregnancy.

She confessed that her marriage was never rooted in love but in the illusion of security and comfort. Confronted with the harsh reality of raising a child in a loveless union, she made the agonizing decision to terminate the pregnancy—a choice that continues to haunt her to this day.

Today, Esma is married to Tanzanian talent manager, Jembe One. She is also a mother to two children from different relationships, carrying the heavy scars of her past while desperately trying to build a future filled with love, redemption, and healing.
