“I’m not God” — Oga Obinna suspends personal acts of kindness amid accusations over Shalkido’s death

Media personality and entertainer Oga Obinna has announced an immediate suspension of all personal, one-on-one charitable acts—following a wave of public outrage and online accusations linking him to the untimely death of former Gengetone star Shalkido.

Oga Obinna, known for his vibrant generosity and community support, is now at the center of a storm. What began as an act of kindness—hosting Shalkido on his YouTube show and helping raise funds for a motorbike to support his boda boda business—has tragically spiraled into blame, grief, and defamation.

Shalkido, a former member of Sailors Gang, died in a motorbike accident just a month after receiving the bike.

He had left an event in Thika hosted by Obinna, choosing to ride the same bike home instead of accepting a car ride. The heartbreaking incident has since sparked online backlash, with some questioning Obinna’s role.

“Acts of Kindness Weaponized for Likes”

In a deeply personal and firm statement issued through Obinna TV Studios, Obinna said the persistent online attacks, misinformation, and emotional manipulation have left him no choice but to withdraw from directly helping individuals outside formal channels.

“What began as genuine efforts to uplift those in need has been met with fabricated stories, malicious trolling, and profound ingratitude that seeks to destroy rather than appreciate,” Obinna said.

He added that many bloggers and online users had “weaponized kindness” for views and engagement, distorting his goodwill into something sinister.

“I Am Not the Source of Anyone’s Breakthrough”

Obinna made it clear: he is not a saviour, just a man trying to help where he can. The decision, he stressed, is not a withdrawal from charity, but a restructuring of how he gives.

“I am simply an instrument—not the source of anyone’s breakthrough or success,” he said.
“I will no longer yield to blackmail, guilt-tripping, or public pressure to give.”

From now on, all charitable support will be conducted strictly through his foundation and CSR programs. Unsolicited DMs, personal requests, and informal interventions will no longer be entertained.

Legal Action Incoming

Obinna also revealed that his team is preparing to take legal action against bloggers and content creators spreading what he called defamatory and unverified claims about him.

“We have tolerated baseless accusations long enough. Documentation is underway, and accountability will be pursued to the fullest extent of the law,” he warned.

Grief, Misunderstanding & A Heavy Heart

Obinna was the first to report Shalkido’s accident—something he did with a heavy heart. That act of transparency has now been turned against him by online critics, some accusing him of negligence for letting Shalkido ride the motorbike.

The motorbike, ironically, was meant to be a lifeline—donated by well-wishers after his viral interview exposed his financial struggles. Instead, it became the very vehicle tied to his death, turning a story of hope into one of tragedy.

Faith, Finality, and Moving Forward

Obinna ended the statement with a biblical reference from the book of Mark:

“If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell.”

This, he said, reflects his painful but necessary decision to step away from direct, personal acts of giving—at least for now.

TL;DR:

  • Oga Obinna suspends all personal charity after being accused of contributing to Shalkido’s death
  • He decries online defamation and toxic public pressure
  • Charitable work will continue through his foundation and structured channels
  • Legal action is coming against those spreading misinformation
  • His message is clear: “I am not God.”
