“Make It Historic”: President Ruto promises KSh600 Million to inspire Harambee Stars toward CHAN 2024 victory

In a bold and stirring moment of national pride, President William Ruto has promised KSh600 million to the Harambee Stars if they bring home the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 title—a reward that could mark a turning point in Kenya’s football history.

Speaking during an emotional breakfast with the team at Nairobi’s Pullman Hotel, just hours before their opening match against the Democratic Republic of Congo, the President’s voice carried the weight of hope, ambition, and belief.

“This is a very historic moment for Kenya… But we don’t want to just host CHAN—we want to win it. And we will.”

As Kenya co-hosts the tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania, President Ruto unveiled an unprecedented reward structure to fire up the national team:

  • KSh60 million for reaching the quarter-finals
  • KSh70 million for reaching the semi-finals
  • KSh90 million for qualifying for the finals
  • KSh600 million if they win the championship

And that’s not all. Every player will receive KSh1 million per win, and KSh500,000 for a draw.

“Guys, it cannot get better than this,” Ruto said, rallying the team with a smile. “We have tripled the rewards so that everyone gives their absolute best.”

But the President’s message went beyond cash prizes. It was a call to unity—a moment for all Kenyans to put aside political and social divides and come together under one banner: the Harambee Stars.

“Let us set aside all other political parties,” he declared. “Our party this month is Harambee Stars. Our slogan is simple: Stars Must Win.”
