Kenyan hypeman MC Gogo has opened up about one of the darkest chapters of his life—slipping into depression after false rumours about his sexuality spread like wildfire online.
Speaking to SPM Buzz on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Gogo revealed how the relentless criticism and malicious claims weighed heavily on his mental health, exposing the brutal power of unchecked social media narratives.

At his lowest point, he admitted he could feel himself sinking deeper into despair.
“I think one thing I noticed is that there was a time I was even depressed. But I also realised that some of the people who come to hurl such claims and criticism at you are actually going through worse struggles themselves,” he shared.

It took the concern of a close friend—who noticed his declining state—for him to finally pause and seek healing.
That was the moment MC Gogo decided to step away from the noise. He went silent, retreating from social media, from the spotlight, and from the constant barrage of lies.

Instead, he embraced solitude—staying indoors, off the public radar, and giving himself the space to breathe again.
For him, that social media detox was nothing short of life-saving.
“Everyone has their own battles, and if you start taking their criticism into your mind, it can easily drive you crazy. I remember there was a time I could feel the weight of that depression, but I decided to take a social media break. I told myself that what people say about me should not stress me because I know who I am, and I am not what they claim I am. That break from social media was the best decision I have ever made,” Gogo narrated.
Through silence, he rediscovered strength. The time away reaffirmed his identity, grounding him in the truth he carries—not the rumours others spread.
The period of retreat gave him clarity, allowing him to rebuild and emerge stronger, more grounded, and more determined to protect his peace.
“A friend of mine actually came up to me before I took the break and told me that I did not look okay, and I already knew I was not okay because many people had raised the issue. I then decided to avoid social media altogether because it had become the trigger. During the break, I just stayed at home and never stepped out,” he added.
For MC Gogo, the lesson was clear: healing begins when you silence the noise and choose yourself above everything else.
