“Oops? Not in my house!” – Radio 47’s Alex Mwakideu’s bold stand on parenthood

In a world where unplanned pregnancies have shaped too many lives too soon, Radio47’s Alex Mwakideu is choosing a different narrative, one built on intention, preparation, and a bold kind of love that doesn’t always come sugar-coated.

Speaking with heartfelt conviction on SAY WHAT, a TV47 show hosted by Betty Kyallo, the veteran broadcaster peeled back the curtain on his personal life, revealing the quiet strength behind his voice and the unwavering decisions that have shaped his journey as a father.

“I told myself even before I got married that I’m never going to have a child that I have not planned for. From baby number one, my wife and I organized.

In fact, We’ve never had a wooi moment in our lives,” Mwakideu shared. “When I’m not ready, I may not give my best to the child.”

It wasn’t just a statement, it was a life philosophy. After 20 years in radio, with a career many admire and a family he treasures, Mwakideu has made it clear: his three daughters were not born by accident. They were born from love, choice, and readiness.

Alex Mwakideu stood firm in his belief that every child deserves to be brought into a world where they are wanted, prepared for, and welcomed fully.

But perhaps the most striking moment of the interview came when he spoke about what he expects from his own children when they grow up.

“When my children grow up I will tell them, if you’re going out there to get a child, if you ever get a child, just know you’re going to start your own family.

Adding, I’m not raising any grandson or grand-daughter. Once you get pregnant, be ready. Even if you will raise the child on the streets, I don’t care. Once you get pregnant be ready to be a mother, to start your own family.”

It’s a message that’s bound to stir emotions and it has. Online, his remarks have sparked intense debate. Is it too harsh? Too cold? Or is it a call to accountability that today’s generation desperately needs?

For Mwakideu, it’s not about cruelty, it’s about clarity. In his view, parenting isn’t something you stumble into. It’s something you commit to, eyes wide open.

“If any of them were to have a child without planning for it, he and his wife would not step in to take up the parenting role,” the father emphasized.

In a country grappling with a rising cost of living, he also made it clear he has no plans to expand his family.

“With this economy, I cannot add another child. Those three are enough. I don’t have any other kid out there,” Mwakideu said with finality.

Behind the voice that wakes up thousands of Kenyans each morning is a man with strong values, values that put deliberate love above accidental life. His words may divide opinion, but they’re rooted in a deep desire to see families thrive, not just survive.
