The reigning Miss Universe Kenya 2024, Miss Irene Ng’endo has officially stepped down from her crown. In a public statement released on November 29, 2024, Miss Universe Kenya, Irene Ng’endo Mukii, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported her on her journey.
She stated: “To all of you who have shown support, thank you. My focus continues to be on transformational leadership, empowering underserved and marginalized communities. I am excited about the future of Inspire Revolution.”
Irene Ng’endo, who remains committed to her impact agenda of community service, emphasized her dedication to her platform, Inspire Revolution, and its mission to serve her generation.
She clarified that she would only align herself with environments that reflect the values and work ethic necessary to achieve her vision.
After much thought, Mukii announced her decision to submit a termination notice to the Miss Universe Kenya Organization but reiterated her ongoing commitment to working together for the benefit of the people.
In 2020, Mukii was crowned Miss Grand Kenya and represented her country at the Miss Grand International pageant in Bangkok, Thailand, where she placed in the Top 20.
On August 16, 2024, she was crowned Miss Universe Kenya 2024 at the Argyle Grand Hotel in Nairobi, defeating 15 other finalists.
During the first week of the 2024 Miss Universe pageant, Mukii ranked among the top seven contestants from Africa and Oceania.
Despite this success, she faced criticism, especially regarding her costume choices. Ng’endo addressed this feedback in an Instagram post, where she spoke about her deep appreciation for Kenyan culture.
She explained the significance behind one of her outfits, which featured the faces of notable Kenyan athletes, celebrating the country’s long-distance running prowess.
